RMD helped position the iconic Pearl Hotel for ongoing success, and revealed new areas for growth.
The Pearl Hotel is a treasure in the Point Loma neighborhood of San Diego. Known for its pool facing restaurant and bar, Charles + Dinorah, the stylish mid-century property hosts some of San Diego’s longest standing community promotions including Dive-In Theater, a movie night where you can nestle up with a blanket pool side, enjoy delicious food and drink, and watch some of the greatest movie classics of all time.
Reestablished excellence
Although popular, The Pearl was in need of property updates and improvements. The Point Loma neighborhood is competitive, offering easy access to beaches, marinas, world class dining, downtown San Diego, Sea World, and the dynamic Liberty Station. New ownership group, Casetta, planned a redevelopment of The Pearl to reestablish its place in the ever-evolving market.
With a new vision forming, Casetta tasked RMD with helping to shape a plan that would maximize The Pearl’s potential. We would need to call on our experiences with hotel based restaurants and bars, as well as banquet operations.
We focused our efforts on two initial scopes:
Overseeing the redevelopment of the property’s food and beverage offerings, most specifically the restaurant, bar, and future café (which would also flex as a banquet space and increase restaurant capacity)
Evaluating the restaurant, bar, and banquet operations to create a strategy that would realize new efficiencies, achieve increased profitability, and maximize ROI

As we applied our process, we delivered more than expected, identifying several new areas of opportunity. We contributed innovative ideas on the beverage program, kitchen program, marketing and promotions, banquet sales and operations, redevelopment space plan, guest experience, and more – all driven by metrics, and designed to position the hotel for long term success.
